2025 Iris Parade

Every spring I look forward to my Iris Parade, and this year didn’t disappoint. In fact, this was a banner year for my irises with a total of 51 different irises showing up. To see names of irises, hold your mouse over the picture.

Most of my irises have names since I’ve purchased them from Schreiner’s. They have a great selection and the irises are always in great shape. Sometimes they will bloom the year following planting them in July, but some wait until the next year. In the past I would buy irises other places, and never had the luck I had with Schreiner’s. Also, if you buy so many, you get one free.

That said, this year I was at our local garden center, Colonial, and they had two beautiful irises (according to the pictures on the pots), that I had to have. I brought them home, planted them and they bloomed! Amazing!!

Here they are:

In 2024, I purchased and planted eight irises from Schreiner’s and received a free one. Five of those irises bloomed this year. The ones that didn’t bloom were Marsh Mist, Decadence, Center Ice, and Claim to Fame. I’ll be looking for them next year!

Only one from the bunch I planted in 2023 from Breck’s made her appearance. I’m hoping they will all show up next year.

Enthralled

My Schreiner’s irises from 2022 appeared again. Several that bloomed in 2023 and 2024 didn’t bloom this year. I’m looking forward to seeing them next year. Here is who bloomed from that order.

All of the irises but one I purchased and planted in 2020 from Schreiners came back. I always love to see them. I missed seeing RagTop.

I bought and planted these from Schreiner’s in 2018. One has never bloomed (Halloween Halo) and Dynamite usually blooms every other year.

Here are ones from my Schreiner’s order back in 2015. Some are no longer around, but these tend to show up almost every year.

Mary gave me these awhile ago and they show up every year.

Susan gave me two, but only Titan’s Glory showed up this year.

Titan’s Glory

Jaime gave me this beauty.

Jamie’s White

These I purchased locally around 2009.

These are some of the irises that were here in 2007 when we moved in except for Eve’s Yellow which came from Dave’s home. Two-tone mauve, in addition to being here, when I planted my friend Sharon’s irises from her home in Alabama, that is the only one of her’s that bloomed. The Purple-Edged White was one that we had all over the yard when we moved here. I’ve not seen it for long time. I planted some old unknown irises down by the shed two years ago. That’s where she was. So glad to have her back.

Here are a couple down by the shed that I’ve never seen it before. They are definitely old. Jill gave me several two years ago when I created that bed, but these aren’t hers.

Besides the beard irises we have these other irises.

Last year I helped Marsha with her iris bed. She hadn’t cleaned it out in awhile, and so she had quite a few extras to giveaway. Most of the irises in the bed were from my garden so I was anxious to see if maybe I’d be lucky and get a couple that I no longer have. Only a couple of them bloomed this year but this was one of them. I’ve missed her! So glad to have her back home.

Two-Tone Rust

Lastly, this is one that was a mistake. I got a refund from Breck’s and I just call it Purple Unknown.

Purple Unknown

It’s been a great season this year even with all of the rain, cold and even a hail storm. After the hail so many of my irises were damaged. To give you an idea of how a couple of them looked before and after, here are two. Many of the buds were damaged so even if they hadn’t bloomed, the new blooms didn’t look right.

Thanks for checking out my iris parade this year. It’s always such a joyful time for me to see who appears. Hope all is well with you. After a short vacation, I hope to come back to creating a few new things. Meanwhile, if you are interested in genealogy or just family stories, check out my Substack blog.
